Making Friends Online: the Do’s and Don’ts of Online Friendship
One of the simple types of socializing is by making
friends but the reality is there are still a lot of people who
experience a great difficulty in making friends. A reason for this may
be shyness and rejection. Detachment from reality should not be an
option to these people and that is one of the many reasons why a lot of
internet sites have gone out of their way to create an online engine to
help people in making friends and reaching out. Some of them are in the
form of chat, forums, dating, etc. In making friends online, there is no
need for you to show your identity. You can create a completely new you
through this.

Here are some of the things that you should and should
not do while trying to make friends online:
1.Always
be friendly and polite especially if you are just testing the waters.
Never try to be annoying. Avoid being too friendly and trusting because
this may put you in harms way.
2.Try
adding people so they’ll know that you’re interested in making them your
friend. Whenever your invitation is rejected, don’t feel bad. Rejection
is also a part of making friends and there are a lot of reasons why a
person may reject an invitation and not all of these reasons are
negative. Remember that they don’t know you personally, so if you get
rejected it doesn’t really mean that it was the real “YOU” who got
rejected.
3.Try
exchanging emails with your online friends so that you can have more
conversations in the future. Ask for their permission first before doing
this, as some of them might not be open to the idea.
4.Try
making friends with groups. Some people find it easier to make friends
to a lot of people who share mutual interests.
5.When
making your username, make sure that it is not difficult to remember.
Avoid adding sets of numbers or scrambled letters to your name.

6.Again,
remember to leave some of your personal information in the real world,
as some of these online chatters do not reveal themselves too.
6.Look
for hints during your conversation. If you feel that the conversation is
going the wrong way, stop chatting. You don’t want to solicit any lewd
proposals or offensive comments in the future. If ever you do receive
one, you can always report it to the maker of the website.
7.Never
set a date to anyone you just met online. A lot of people testify to
negative experiences after doing this, like theft, fraud, etc. Looking
for friends online is good but always be skeptic since you do not know
these people personally.
